The Chris Craft Company was started on Point du Chene, in Algonac, Michigan, a small town on the St. Clair River. It was here that Christopher Columbus Smith built his first boat in 1874 at age 13. With his reputation as a master boat builder on the grow, Chris joined with his brother Hank in 1881 to begin producing boats full time. As demand for their dependable hunting craft increased, the duo started building boats in rapid succession, perhaps laying the ground work for their future as builders of “standardized” runabouts. In 1950, Chris-Craft offers 139 different recreational power boat models and it is recognized as world’s largest builder of mahogany constructed power boats. In 1971, Chris-Craft builds their last mahogany boat, which completes the transition fiberglass products.
For generations, Chris-Craft has captivated those with an appreciation for the finer things, with exceptional style, seaworthy functionality and attention to the smallest details. In 2014, Chris-Craft turned 140 years old, and having such a rich history in the marine industry. His vision is to build boats that stand out in a sea of sameness.
Chris-Craft is designed, engineered, and built in Sarasota, FL USA.
